Mr. & Mrs. Pitts
Truth be told I was waiting to get a FAB piano pic of the new bride and groom. Words could not begin to describe the beauty of her loving gaze as her groom played love's music in honor of his beautiful bride.
Words could never express the shear joy and emotion of their families, and most of all of Antoinette's mom, who was so happy to see that her only daughter was marrying the man of her dreams. I too found myself with a joyful heart to be entrusted with such an important day.
Antoinette & Preson, may God bless your union, now and always.
Until the next time...enjoy life and all the great things that come with it like joyful moments and wedding planners.

Butterflies Are Free
This past Saturday (4/11) my team and I coordinated an intimate Bridal Shower for the family of one of our brides-to-be. Butterflies was the theme and Antoinette (the bride-to-be) was so surprised! We scheduled the shower on the Eve of Easter to make her believe that she was attending an Easter Egg hunt with a friend. Imagine her surprise walking into the restaurant and seeing her family and friends there who loved and supported her throughout her courtship with her husband-to-be.
This shower was complete with all the traditional bridal shower games (including the "Toilet Paper Bride") and a new-age tradition of a Guest Plate that the guests could write their well wishes on and Antoinette can display in her home. The favors consisted of butterfly boxes that contained a candle or mints and a butterfly note pad. Butterflies were placed on the table and on the shower umbrella! Butterflies were everywhere!
I'll blog about the wedding taking place this weekend (4/18), next week but wanted to give you all a chance to enjoy pics from the shower.
Until the next time...enjoy life and all the great things that come with it like butterfly and wedding planners.

The Graduates
In the past two years, I have found that being a teacher is quite like being a Mom. You meet new and interesting students and find that, like children, they each bring something new, unique and fun to your life. Also similar to being a mom I've learned that sometimes you must sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
This is my third semester teaching the wedding planning certification course and each semester my students have gotten a very challenging final project...oh how I wish I had blogged from the first class until now...nevertheless my students did not disappoint. I could not have been more proud of this group of students - unless of course I really was their mom watching them take their first steps. Come to think of it, that's just what the final projects were, kind of like their first steps. Now my students would beg to differ and probably say that the midterm was just as intensive as the final, but you have to crawl before you can walk.
BABY GENIUSES
The final project was based on a couple named Jana James and James Wong (these are imaginary people, created by yours truly). The guest count was 250 people, with a budget of $52,000. Now what's the challenge in this you might say? Well the budget also included a honeymoon that required a two week stay in Tahiti and Europe as well as travel. Nothing could be gifted, so great Aunt Sally could not pay for the wedding flowers. The couple loved action sports, reading, wanted wine, fresh flowers, bold colors and candles. The theme was Poets Paradise.
While the theme was poetic my students found nothing poetic or romantic about this project until the end. The transition between crawling and walking is often tough but my class didn't walk, they ran! Below are a pics of them presenting their design boards.

THE WEDDING PLANNERS
Like a mom, I silently chuckled (with pride) as with final projects presented and quizzes and homeworks complete the students all breathed a collective sigh of relief. Like a mom, I fought back the tears as my birds prepared to leave the nest to go forth and begin their own businesses. Like a mom I could not be prouder of them or their potential accomplishments!
Congratulations to the Spring Class of 2009...go forth, plan, create fantastic events and soar! (top row l. to r. Marlo Ricketts Green, Cynthia Shareef, Beth Gibson, Deborah Yacyshyn, J.T.; bottom row l. to r. Taylor Johnson, Nicole Brennan, Judith Robinson, Lisa Clarke)

Paparazzi...Martinis...Milkshakes and Macaroni...
This past Friday (3/27), my team and I coordinated and managed a 30th birthday party. The theme...30 is the new 20. Complete with paparazzi...martinis...milkshakes and macaroni...
I want to share a special special thank you to my assistant for the night, Taisha Ellington-Johnson. She is one of my former students who has just begun her business Ellington Events. She is going to be a FABULOUS planner and I look forward to seeing her business grow (p.s. Taisha is pictured above). I also want to thank Britne Hutchins for being as always a second fabulous assistant! I look forward to a continued relationship with you both!
Last bit of "blog luv" goes out to Leysath Security for taking such great care of my staff and I! Also thanks Bryan Calvetti for the videography, you have a contagious passion! You were both truly amazing!
The party guests entered the artistically beautiful location by going up candlelit steps to the loft. Upon entering they experienced Hollywood Glamour by posing in front of a 30 is the new 20 logo backdrop (Yes folks, we create custom logos too) for the photographers and videographer. After they were then interview for our version of Access Hollywood. So many got into the "game" and loved telling our onsite person who they were wearing and how they were styled. The end video is going to be great!

Martinis & Macaroni:
All the food was served in martini glasses. Thanks to the fabulous job of Chef Smiley of Happy Face Catering. Chef Smiley prepared mashed potato martini's with choice of chicken or salmon lolipops and his Pièce de résistance deep fried macaroni and cheese with a vodka stewed tomato sauce. OMG!!!! Heaven in a martini glass! I have never in my life had something so tasty...I cannot wait to sample his deep fried Oreos with his signature glaze...for more on Chef Smiley.

In addition to all of the delicious food (and there was a lot) Coldstone Creamery was on site to make custom ice cream for each guest. They heated up the dance floor and cooled down with Coldstone.
The cake was courtesy of Desserts by Dana! YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!! Check out the pic below (cake photo taken by Regina Lesley Event Artistry) :
Milkshakes:
Milkshakes at a birthday party? Oh yes! Everyone at the party reading this blog fully understands that everyone was on the dance floor having a great time (Milkshaking it)! EVERYONE!

Through the Looking Glass
Planning a wedding, while exciting and fun, can be tough. Often finding the right vendor is like another form of marraige and with the failure rate of marriages, finding "the one" can be tricky. Brides and Grooms go on appointments (date), get serious (narrowing it down to one or two) and finally decide on one (get engaged & setting the date) and sign the contract (saying I do).
As a certified wedding professional, I like to think of myself as the equivalent of many of those dating sites. I can narrow down the choices and get couples through the muck of courting vendors, going on too many appointments and in general wanting to pull their hair out and all but giving up on the wedding. In a nutshell I make it simple.
A good event planner has excellent established relationships with vendors and can match your style to theirs. When searching for an event planner couples should find out if they have relationships with vendors in the area and even ask the planner for vendor references.
I teach a wedding planning certification course at the local college and want to thank long-standing vendors (and now friends) for taking the time to introduce themselves and their businesses to my class each semester:
Katherine Escudero, Escudero Photography
Katherina and Christian are a husband and wife team who work to provide professional photography in Smyrna, DE and the surrounding areas. When photographing a wedding they like to focus on each Bride and Groom to customize the photos that are most important to them.
Misty Dawn, Misty Dawn Photography
Misty Dawn does fine art wedding and portrait photography - and considers herself a Lifestyle Photographer - in The Greater Philadelphia area (and including Maryland and the Beaches).
Jim & Kitty Jones, PBK Photography
Jim and Kitty are a husband and wife team who specialize in weddings, portraits and photo restorations. They have been in business for almost 20 years and have recently received the Best of Delaware award. They service the Greater Philadelphia Area.
Again my hat goes off to all of you. Thank you for taking the time to speak with my class each semester to provide insight on building a photography business and giving them all a look through your own personal looking glass.
